Performing Arts

Exploring the Arts is a popular part of life at Taieri College.  Music, Drama, Visual Arts and Kapa Haka provide rich opportunities for students to discover and express their creative instincts.  Construction has began on our new Performing Arts Centre, giving students an excellent stage on which to show off their talents.

Our passionate music teachers and tutors encourage students to explore a variety of music genres.  From Rockquest to choral festivals and chamber music recitals, Taieri College students compose, practise and play in them all.

Whether it is performing in recognised plays or having fun in impromptu theatresports, treading the boards is always extremely popular at Taieri College.  Budding thespians are giving expert direction in acting and enjoy performing with confidence in front of our college community.

Visual Art provides opportunities in Painting, Photography and Art Design.  Students can choose to follow an Arts pathway in a choice of art disciplines, providing aesthetic reward and NCEA credits at the same time.

Kapa Haka has developed in the last few years at Taieri College.  Our tutors passion for Kapa Haka has been passed on to our students.  For the first time ever, Taieri College's Kapa Haka performed in the 2017 Hautonga Otago Southland Kapa Haka Competition.  Tihei mauri ora!
