Kia ora tatou Taieri College students have been engaged in a vast array of co-curricular activities this week.  On Monday our Learning Support Centre hosted a “Mad Hatters Tea Party” which was well attended, and equally well hosted.  My thanks to Keegan, Connor, Cody and Kurtis for the work and effort they put in, and making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. Elsewhere across the college, our English Department have conducted impromptu and prepared speech finals, our senior Drama students have been performing plays for assessments and our Chemistry students competed in a senior quiz at Otago University.  There certainly hasn’t been a winding down for the holidays! Another important function this week was our annual Gateway celebration. Our Gateway programme is for senior students who explore vocational pathways during the year by studying industry unit standards and spending a day a week at an industry or work place that is suited to their interests.  We are so fortunate to have the support of a range of local businesses.  It is their ongoing cooperation and generosity that enables us to continue with this very important aspect of Taieri College.  My sincere thanks to everyone who has been involved in another successful year for the Gateway programme. Voting is held today for our student representative on the Board of Trustees.  I have been really impressed with the way all four candidates have conducted themselves and especially enjoyed their promotional speeches to the students.  We are very fortunate to have candidates of such high calibre and I wish them all the very best as votes are returned.  Thankfully we operate a first past the post system and won’t have to wait for several weeks to find out the result. Finally, from me I would like to wish all families a safe and happy school holiday. Noho ora mai Dave Hunter
