Kia ora tatou Election fever hits Taieri College next week as four students have registered interest in becoming the Student Representative on our Board of Trustees. I congratulate Rachel Irvine, Hunter Dale, James Lord and Logan Stadnyk for putting their names forward. In respect of democracy, all candidates will speak to Year 9-13 students during the course of next week and voting will occur on the Friday. I wish Rachel, Hunter, James and Logan the very best for their campaigns. Our senior Physical Education classes have been busy over the last couple of weeks participating in a variety of outdoor education activities. Our Level 3 NCEA students were cross country skiing near Wanaka, our Level 2 students mountain biking in Naseby and our Level 1 students were kayaking and tramping on and around the Lower Taieri River. It is great to see so many students taking advantage of these unique opportunities. Taieri College is very fortunate to have such willing and skilled Physical Education staff to facilitate these experiences. Results from NCEA practice examinations are now being collated for senior reports. These reports will be issued to students at the end of term and the examination results provide a decent indication of how students are progressing towards their final examinations starting in early November. It is important for parents and caregivers to take note of these results. Should they not be at the desired level, then a conversation around preparation and revision needs to take place. As always, the adage of “there is no substitute for hard work” rings true. Noho ora mai Dave Hunter
